We should care about the web. It can be a wonderful tool and a bountiful place, filled with knowledge and human connection. Like other resources that might be included in the commons, it's important to make it accessible for as many people as possible.
Good practices
This website follows some good practices to ensure its accessibility, such as:
Semantics and content
- Semantic HTML
- Use of relevant ARIA labels
- Language set in HTML head and specific elements
- Non decorative images have alt text
Visual
- Colour contrast at WCAG AA or above
- Links clearly identifiable (underlined or buttons)
- Visual hierarchy
- No justified text
- Responsive design
- Font sizes are set with rem and not px
- Legible font choice
- Toned down animations if the user prefers reduced motion
Navigation
- Keyboard navigatable with visible focus
- Links to skip to main content and return to top
- Does not change scroll behaviour
Technical
- Reasonable page weight
- Does not require Javascript
- Font loading does not block text rendering
Known issues
- The lists of links on the homepage lack descriptive introductions
- May not display optimally in Internet Explorer or older browsers
